MARCO, winner of Southern Europe’s Best Consultancy of the Year at the SABRE awards and an industry leader in brand management, positioning and reputation, has appointed Tomás Matesanz as Business Development & Innovation Officer.

Reporting to CEO and Founder, Didier Lagae, MARCO’s management team will combine the roles of both national and international business expansion, the establishment and opening of international offices in Brussels, London, Berlin and Milan, as well as maintaining the positioning and leadership of the firm in EU public and regulatory affairs. Tomas will also support the upcoming opening of the Warsaw office.

Tomás Matesanz’s focus includes Innovation at MARCO, as well as identifying and defining new disciplines and partnerships. This comes as part of MARCO’s firm commitment to incorporate new communication technology solutions for the modern brand positioning of its clients through data programming, Artificial Intelligence, new filming techniques and other technologies that optimise the experience, reputation and expectations of the client.

Tomas will be based in Madrid but will also travel and work internationally and join the Executive Committee.  He has a degree in Business Administration and Information Science from Eastern Michigan University.  Tomás also has a Master’s degree in International Relations from Columbia University NYC, a Master’s degree in Business Management and Communication Management from IE Business School, as well as intensive training in Big Data and AI.  

Matesanz has extensive international experience across various markets in both communications and public affairs. In recent years, he has become a recognised expert in strategic communication and public affairs in the tourism sector and was recently appointed Council Member for different tourism investment funds through GLG Consulting in London.

Previously, he held the positions of Global Director of Communications and Public Affairs of Silversea Cruises based in Miami; Corporate General Manager of LLYC, formerly known as Llorente & Cuenca, and Vice President of Communications and Regulatory Affairs for CLIA, the World Association of Cruise Companies for the European Region, based in Brussels. He was also Director of the Crisis area at LLYC.

His latest professional success was his recognition as Advisor of the Month on regulatory affairs for the WTTC (World Travel & Tourism Council) during his time at Silversea and he has also won various European and international awards for his work on communication campaigns and brand rebuilding.
