MARCO, the international communications agency based in Spain, is approaching 18 years of age and growing steadily. MARCO de Comunicación was named European and Iberian Agency of the Year earlier this year by the Excellence and Sabre Awards, respectively. On top of this, before the summer its founder and CEO, Didier Lagae, was named Global and European PR Professional of the Year by the Stevie and PR Week Awards, coinciding with the publication of his book Country Brand, a Country as a Brand. To sustain this continued growth, MARCO reinforces its leadership team with the signing of Begoña González as division head.

Begoña comes to MARCO bringing wide-ranging experience in a variety of sectors, with special emphasis on strategic consulting, in addition to possessing great team leadership skills. Her decision to join MARCO represents a professional opportunity in one of the leading agencies in Europe to manage the brand and reputation building for some of the world’s biggest brands and companies in their sector.

With a degree in Journalism from the University of Malaga and a master’s in Business Communication from the Complutense University of Madrid, Begoña has almost 20 years of experience in the world of communication, the digital environment and public relations, as well as strategic consultancy in internal and external communication and CSR. She started her career in Ericsson’s internal communication, before becoming an account executive at PowerAxle, and then joining Best agency, where she has come to play the role of Head of Growth & Development, in charge of customer business development and communication strategies.

Following her recent appointment, the new division head stated: “After 15 years in an agency that’s very specialised in the digital market, in areas such as health, childhood, retail and mass consumption, I join the MARCO project with great enthusiasm, looking at this new challenge as the opportunity to jump to the most awarded and best valued agency in the country, leader in the sector. What caught my attention the most was MARCO’s great international vision and its ability to bring together many of the best professionals in the communication sector.”

MARCO founder and CEO Didier Lagae said: “We are delighted to incorporate a great professional and talent in the world of communication in Spain. Our continuous growth requires us to be open to the opportunity to reinforce the management team with people who join at a strategic, digital and communicative level in general”.

MARCO will come of age being the fastest growing agency in Spain, as indicated by The Holmes Report ranking published in 2019. This growth represents a year-on-year increase of 20%, not counting its recent acquisition of Ejecutivos magazine, and has allowed it to expand internationally over the past year by opening new offices in Mexico City, Bogota and Lima. In addition, this past year the agency has consolidated its reputation as a climate leader thanks to its collaboration with a large number of clients working on sustainability issues, as well as the appointment of Didier Lagae as Climate Leader within the Climate Reality Project, founded by former US Vice President Al Gore.
