Communication agency MARCO will be responsible for developing the communication strategy and managing media relations for the launch of Nickel in Spain. After great success in France, BNP Paribas’ new banking model is coming to Spain to offer a unique banking solution that will revolutionise the Spanish financial sector. In France, it has already become the third-largest current account distribution network, with 1.6 million accounts.

Nickel will launch in Spain in the second half of 2020, with a disruptive business model that turns lottery and tobacco shops into banks. For this launch, MARCO will develop a communication strategy at both a local and national level, focusing on press office services, digital PR, and stakeholder relations, among other activities.

The independent company operates under the umbrella of BNP Paribas, having been bought by the group in 2017. It currently has more than 400 employees and began its international expansion earlier this year.

“It is an honour to be able to work with the Nickel team and to help consolidate their groundbreaking business model in Spain. Nickel is right at the crossroads between local neighbourhoods and the latest digital developments. It brings together constantly changing sectors: banking, and lottery and tobacco shops. It is important for them to be able to rely on an agency that has relevant experience but that is also capable of launching innovative new business models, and MARCO offers just that,” states Didier Lagae, Founder and CEO of MARCO.

Javier Ramírez, CEO of Nickel España, said, “Nickel is coming to our country to revolutionise the Spanish banking sector with a simple and accessible product. Our strategic plans are based on growing and consolidating our position in Spain in the near future, and I am sure that, together with the team at recognised agency MARCO, we will have great success over the next few years”.
