The communication agency, MARCO, has been awarded ‘Best Consultancy of the Year in Southern Europe’ at the prestigious SABRE Awards. The awards ceremony, which was held for the first time online, announced the decision of the distinguished jury made up of high-level professionals. MARCO, in addition, was shortlisted as a finalist in multiple categories with campaigns for its clients Subway, B The Travel brand and TaxDown.

The 2020 SABRE Awards for Agency of the Year recognise the main public relations consultancies in the region. The shortlist across all categories includes approximately 400 campaigns from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and highlights the main successes in terms of brand, reputation and engagement. This recognition for ‘Best Consultancy of the Year in Southern Europe’ comes after having won the award for ‘Best Iberian Consultancy’ the previous year, demonstrating the agency’s international positioning and growth.

This important recognition of MARCO is due to the agency’s excellent performance in 2019, where it managed to position itself as the fourth Spanish consultancy in the ranking of the 250 most important public relations agencies, prepared by The Holmes Report – PRovoke, as well as being the Spanish agency with the highest growth. This growth goes hand in hand with the expansion of the MARCO Group, as shown by its growing presence in Latin America during the last twelve months. In addition to the offices already active in Mexico, Colombia and Peru, a new office was opened in Brazil to join the MARCO Group in the past year.

2019 also brought great recognition for MARCO through its founder and CEO, Didier Lagae, who was recognised as European and Global PR Professional of the Year 2019 by the PRWeek and Stevie Awards. MARCO is distinguished by its expertise in creating country brands. This knowledge has been collated and shared in the book written by Didier Lagae: ‘A Country Brand, a Branded Country’ in which Lagae explains the keys to creating a strong brand which can enhance tourism and the business sector in any country. Furthermore, the agency is on the front line in the fight against climate change. Lagae’s collaboration with The Climate Reality Project, as well as the wide portfolio of MARCO’s clients specialising in sustainability and the environment, have positioned him as a communication expert in this area. Thanks to this, the agency opened a series of conferences at COP25 together with The Climate Reality Project and its clients Kaiserwetter and SHARENOW.

MARCO, in addition to winning the award for ‘Best Consultant of the Year in Southern Europe’, also managed to finish as a finalist with its clients Subway, B the Travel Brand and TaxDown, who were nominated for the ‘Digital Campaign’, ‘Travel & Tourism’ and ‘Iberia’ awards respectively. The awards jury also emphasised the good work developed by MARCO for other client campaigns including the World Water Council, Conforama and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
